Default LT1 Street cam suggestions

Hey guy's,

My buddy is restoring a 96 Z28. The short block is already built (355) with forged rotating assembly. He was thinking of using the stock heads but stepping up to bigger cam. He has purchased a Monster 4L60E tranny and new Yank 3000 converter.

The car has a stock rearend with 3.23's.

This car will be mostly for the street with occasional trips to the track. He's not looking for all out power. Something with good drivability and good street manners will do.

What cam do you LT1's guy's suggest he go with?

Also...what about injector size?

Thanks in advance!

Some will say to go custom, but if your on a budget and want something that you wont have to mess with alot go with (hot cam,cc305, gm846) along those lines.

Advanced induction seems to have great succes with their cam only customers and have a complete package they sell.
lloyd elliot too but i havent seen quite as many cam only results.

How are you going to tune the car?

If mail order stick with an off the shelf cam.

good luck

Definately working on a budget.

I was leaning toward this grind from Comp:

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-2520-co...4-113-lsa.aspx

It will be tuned using HP Tuners (most likely a street tune for now).

Hp Tuners? Not unless he's doing a LS1 PCM conversion, won't work with the LT1 PCM.

Yeah...sorry I mispoke. It will most likely be a mail order tune. Any recommendations?

I run the hotcam with lightly ported stock heads and a pcmforless mailorder tune, full bolt ons, running times below, current rwhp around 370 range.

Do gears before a cam, been there made that mistake myself.
Tell him to start saving up for when that garbage tranny takes out his nice converter.

Does the car have basic boltons? headers, CAI etc.?

Yeah....the car has brand new LT's and CIA that has yet to be installed yet. The tranny is a brand new Monster that also hasn't even been installed yet. I have seen many high HP LS cars using this tranny with no issues.

The car was completely stock going into the build. All performance installed are new.

Even a terribly built tranny usually lasts long enough for the owner to tell people he was happy. Then many let ego get in the way and wont go back and admit they made a massive mistake.

Monster is bad news.

Well...the Monster is already bought and paid for. If it lets go then I guess he will have to deal with it in the future. I have three other buddies that run use a Monster in their 500+ rwhp F-bodies with good results. Both see a ton of track time too. Only time will tell I guess.

I like the Lunati Voodoo 60121 for stock heads...a slight step up from the hotcam; but excellent driveability and torque, little choppy idle, easy to tune.

if on a budget, you can't argue with a well known off the shelf cam, lt4 hotcam or cc503, with either a mail order tune will be very close since they are many of them out there.
