High Speed LT1 cruise
Hey guys its me and im gonna be going on a road trip in 2 weeks and me and my best friend a owner of an 2007 BMW M6 and were gonna visit some family in santa monica california and where driving there, we will be cruising high speed(120-140mph) at a constant 3000-5000rpms through the deserts of the west for long periods of time. I have a stock 1994 Z28 with few bolt ons, pacesetter LT's with side cutouts and no cats, and was wondering what tricks and ideas on keeping the car COOL. i still have a stock radiator from 1994. would replacing for a thicker core rad help? i have brand new fresh Perelli P Zeros on rated (Y). i wouldn't want over heating in the desert then detonation then me being stuck in death valley lol. i guess this is a test for endurance on our engines, so any tips would be appreciated
Thanks
Thanks

If you want to cruise fast, keep it closer to 100.
120-140 is just too fast for cruising in an fbody with stock suspension.
At 140 your car is near max(when stock) so your going to have it at 98% ***** out for hours and hours and hours in the middle of freeking no where...not good idea IMO.

Buy a No2 kit and have it spray your rad when temps start getting alittle high to cool it down. Seriously I wouldn't would'nt set my cruise at 140 for miles and miles at a time. there's safety issues and not to mention law. But if your gonna do it Id only do it for short periods at a time. Keep a eye on your gauges. Make sure your car is up to proper mechanical condition. A larger Be cool rad will help along with oil coolers, brake cooler's cooling ducts and a tranny cooler if your a auto. Maybe a diff cooler also. Seems like alot but if you want to drive for any lenght at those speeds in the desert be prepared.
Just drive at safe speeds and do some safe spirted driving when conditions allow and be safe. Last thing you want is a accident when your in the middle of nowhere

Oh yeah, depending on what small town you decide to blow through you're probably going to jail. Basically when going through small towns you best slow down to the posted speed limit, do exactly the speed limit all the way to a sign signifying a faster speed. Small town cops need revenue and they'll salivate at the chance of getting to know a white boy like you and your bimmer buddy.

I disagree, in '04(~40k miles ago) I went from the candadian border to boston @ a steady 140 and the engine did just fine and still doesn't miss a beat, hell when I lifted the heads the cylinder cross hatching were still like new. I've got a be-cool and 160tstat so the temps stayed where they usually do. one thing I'd highly suggest tho is a dif cooler cause sustained speeds like that creates allot of heat which can kill them quick. I know my rear developed a whine after that run. looking back I probably wouldn't do it again, I only did it b/c it was from 1am-4:30am(sure did save some time) but mainly I did it b/c I had to stay a few extra days so my license had been suspended by the time I got to leave.

we all have our stupid stories but we are all here to advise against it. sounds great now and in the recent past, but realistically... you will find out on your own, either you learn or you won't ever get the chance.

California gave me a $700 ticket for 10 over.
Might want to rethink your grand scheme.
Though when I was younger and stupider I did 120 for a GOOD portion of my trip from SD to PHX. Car overheated 3 times. But it was holding steady as far as traction. Stock suspension.
