Default 94 vs 95 camshaft differences for opti swap

I have searched a pretty good bit trying to figure out if the nonvented optispark will work with the 95 model camshaft. I am rebuilding another engine for my 94 camaro with the nonvented opti which I just recently purchased and was wondering if the 95 camshaft will work with my opti. I know the dowel pins are different lengths and the 95 camshaft is supposed to have a bigger hole in the center which prevents the vented opti from working with the 94 model camshafts. I want to go with the 95 cam in case my opti goes out in the future so I can swap to the newer distributor but I want to use the nonvented one now since it's pretty much brand new.
Does anyone know if I can use the nonvented distributor by changing the length of the dowl pin in the 95 camshaft?
thanks in advance

You can use a non-vented opti with a 95+ cam, but you can not use a 93-94 cam with a vented opti. It's not the pin length but the cam snout.

Front cover is also incompatible. You'll need the 95 cover but the swap is worth it in the long run. A whole bunch more reliability out of the later Opti's.

Can you keep the 94 cover if you use the 94 timing stuff with the 95 cam?

Let me get this straight i have a 93 and a 97 backup motor i wont be able to use a 93 fron cover or opti on the 97 motor when i build it to put it in? If that is so what else is not compatible from the 93? Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread.

Yes. Just change to shorter dowel pin. Cam gear that has splined center and front cover.
