Default DMH Electric Cutout

I came across these while getting my winter parts list made up and was wondering if these would give me an advantage at the track. The car is stock except for bolt ons and will be getting a tune when the exhaust comes. Would i notice a gain in a few hp with this cut out or is it not worth the effort? I have to compromise bc it is a daily driver and i cant always run open headers etc.

IMO, the biggest gains from them will be if they are placed about 18" behind the collectors. They do nothing but make loud exhaust if they are placed near the back of the exhaust system.

When I open mine up, I can feel the power curve shiftward and peak power holds on longer. See sig for pics.

You won't notice anything measurable. That is other than the noise.

When I had just gotten my magnaflow ran it with and w/o the muffler and had exactly the same times down the track... ended up keeping the muffler on.

I assume when you pulled the muffler, you still had the long I pipe on. Is that correct? If yes, then what you did equates to a cutout too far back.

Again if the cutouts are right behind the collectors, there are gains. IIRC, I saw 16RWHP from simply opening mine up plus a nicer looking power curve.

So i would need to get the set of two for right after the collectors. I was originally planning to place it after the y pipe.

yea, I kept the I pipe and all, was just experimenting at the track.

maybe the cat back does restrict that much flow? IDK.

Do you have a catback? I would think that with a stock catback, you should still notice a pretty big gain with a cutout in the y pipe. I was gonna put mine right after the merge. I have a stock catback with a swapped out muffler.

As said their low-profile cutouts on the y pipe would yield the biggest gains. Anywhere else is just for noise. I have some just before my rear mufflers, and while their fun to open I know that's all I'm getting.

Im planning on purchasing the SLP LM1 catback, with Pacesetter longtubes and ORY.

In that case I agree with WRD1972. You probably wont notice much of a difference on a stock motor though even with two cutouts off the collectors.

So would it be better to have them right after the collectors or after the y pipe and only use one?

When I had the Borla adjustable catback with the e-cutout at the split, opened up it made a whopping 1 RWHP more than closed. Totally worthless except for the sound level increase.

Regardless of the size of the I-pipe, when you factor in the bends in the tubing, the merge at the Y which all scrub off velocity and air flow characteristics in general, IMO the cutout at the back is pointless. This is why I saw much better gains with my current setup.

This isnt too relevent but on my stroker i gained 20 RWHP and 30 RWTQ and the RPM range stayed the same, just more power at every RPM. dual 3" cutouts at the collector (the cutout itself is about 8 inches long). My catback kind of sucks (edelbrock)

Cam it and then throw on a E-Cutout. My past 94 Z28 w/ the DMH E-cutout picked up 17rwh/15rwt with a small AI cam & 200cc heads. http://www.streetfire.net/video/adva...-cu_694817.htm

I picked up 14rwhp peak and more through out the curve. This is only one cut out placed way back by the rear seat opening.
