Filter magnet: snake oil or useful?
Got this in an email from Summit. One of their sale items. This would have probably been usefull during break in and during the dyno tune but probably pointless now. What do you think?

Use em all time on my bikes.
Cheap insurance for expensive Harleys.
If your motor is generating metal particles, you have a problem.
After break in it should be pretty clean in that department.

go to harbor freight, buy a few packs of Neodymium / rare earth magnets.. they are extremely strong. attach them to your oil filter, fuel line or where ever you want.. Ive put them in the bottom of my tranny pan and wrapped my oil filter with them for years... ive even put them on my fuel lines but never saw any mileage increase from it.. (like the ads say)... They DO work.. Ive never cut apart my oil filter but I know damn well they catch **** in my tranny...

u do realize when the filter bypasses its in the valving before the filter right? lol........idk people here seem to love them but IMO i could find something better to spend $80 on...........and if there is THAT much debris on first start up you need to work on de burring parts and cleanliness on assembly.........every motor ive done has been clean as a whistle on startup......i just change the oil out to get all the loose moly lube and assembly lube out.....

I do know that on my HDs, it's just the opposite. LOL
They don't cost 80 bucks either.
And yes, I have never seen ground up filings in any motor of mine either.
I have on many occasions though seen ferrous material on the drain plugs.
