Default stock exhaust is press bent correct?

I picked up Hooker headers and y pipe today for almost free. And after looking at the exhaust y pipe my car has now all the bends are manderal bent and not press bent. Even the mid pipe over axle is manderal. But I do have stock manifolds.

Am I correct in assuming that from the factory it was press? I have had my car for a week and the PO didn't know to much on what was done.

When I took my stock exhaust off my car it was all smooth, no 'kinks' from press bending.

Looked like it was all mandrel bent pipe from the factory.

Actually, GM changed the Y-pipe design from 93-95 to 96-97 (and added dual cats)....this was responsible for the 10 HP rating gain from 275 to 285 HP (I remember reading about this in motortrend years ago. My 94 car had the kinked, restrictive POS y-pipe. OP you have a 96-97 car right?

Yup I have a 97. And the y-pipe looks pretty good. I am wondering if I should stick with the stock y-pipe or replace it with the hooker y pipe that came with the headers. They are shorties BTW and should bolt right up if i'm not mistaken...

Are they both the same diameter pipe? Go with the bigger pipe diameter...before I had headers, I replaced just the shitty press bent y-pipe with a borla 3" y pipe and it made a huge difference because it was much larger diameter pipe and mandrel bends (it was MUCH louder too, even with manifolds).

I will have to figure it out, the stock is 2 pipes.. maybe 2.5" and the hooker y looks to be 2.75 or 3. and the stock y does not connect until after the pass side seat when it goes to what looks like a 3" cat back that the PO hacked up to add a resonator and put on a quite muffler and press bent tips...

LOL ya it will be a weekend project to get it how I want

Yep, my '93's stock exhaust is all kinds of kinked... oddly, the two pipes exiting the muffler are mandrel bent...
