can a coolant temp sensor not plugged in cause a vehicle to hard start?

True or false?

Yes the sensor that indicates your temp in the dash.

Dash guage sensor, absolutely not. PCM sensor, absolutely yes.

ok so cts not plugged in will start the car normally but what pcm sensor?

There are two sensors, the one for the dash gauge is in the driver's side head. Just look at the exhaust near cylinder one and three, you'll see it. The other tells the computer what the temperature is. It's in the water pump, and it will cause hard starting.

I personally have seen this myself, buddies 93 z28 had some hard start issues, and when it did run it ran like absolute **** (oddly enough it threw opti codes) got a new opti for it, and decided to check the codes again before i replaced it, showed no opti codes at this point but showed a cts code. replaced the temp sensor with one of my spares, and the car ran great untill he sold it

The one on my driver head has been removed and unplugged to make way for a mechanical temp gauge for 2years now with no start/run issues.. Now the one on the pump fOr the PCM will cause major issues if not connected or operating properly .
