Default Let the mods begin: LS1 Volant on LT1 Fbody

UPDATED AT POST 20! Well here's the quick story...Bought a brand new 95 Z28 on 10 Jul 1995 exactly one year before my son was born on 10 Jul 96. Gave the car to my father-in-law in 2003 when I got my SS and it fell into significant disrepair (close to junkyard status, I **** you not). Got the car back last year and began the process of getting it ready for my Boy's 16th birthday (next July) and now it's officially road worthy, just needs a few things (mostly cosmetic now), but for Chirstmas the boy is getting an LS1 Volant intake for the conversion. Good news is he already swapped his hood for an aftermarket 3" cowl style hood with a front scoop (pic attached) that we intend to mod for Ram air on the Volant.

Not sure how it will work out, I've searched and haven't found much on this exact swap, so we'll be winging it quite a bit. Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone seen this swap before?

Did it on my friends 94 trans am with an aftermarket hood. Didn't have to mod it any. Don't know about your hood though. His was really high. You may have to trim the housing down some.

That looks like the one LT1 car I saw with the Volant...but I only found pics with a google search. Was tryin to gauge from it whether it would work with our based on the side shot, but man the hood on that one is way taller than our. I did go with the Camaro version of the volant though, so I think it sits a bit lower than the T/A version. Is there a write up somewhere for his conversion?

I have not seen a write up. I test fit it and it was actually not tall enough to seal 100% to his hood. We knew it would be close and that's what he wanted to run. I personally have never seen another on a lt1.

For reference here is his car next to my wifes TA. His hood is quite a bit bigger

Thats my car that Jpack help me on, I'm using a VFN 4in hood because it wouldn't clear with the stock ram air hood. There was no write up because Ive never seen it before so we wanted to do something different

if it doesnt seal, remove the foam strip from the box and put modeling clay on it in place of the foam strip.. close the hood and then open.. the clay will tell you where its too tall or not tall enough...

Yea, I think our hood is about as tall as the stock ram air hood on the T/A in the front at least, but it gets taller as it moves back up the hood.

That's pretty badass man...ever since my boy got that hood he's been afterme to make the front faux intake functional, so we'll give it a shot. Prob won't be till mid jan before we get it done, but will give it a shot over the my vacation time after Christmas. Mostly curious just to mock it up and see how close we get.

Z28 + 16 yr old = sleepless nights . Good luck on the project I like the idea but think that hood will need cut to fit those filters.

Yea I don't think we have a prayer at the T/A volant fitting, but the one designed for the Camaro SS looks a bit more doable:

Yea, we've ingrained a good bit of respect for speed in the boy and we're making him take a driving course before he gets it, then I'm also making him Autocross the car so he understands where the limits are and better handles the car when he exceeds those limits. Just hope he won't be like I was as kid...it's a wonder I survived.

You could also try to locate a LS1 k&n FPIK setup, that filter isnt as tall, It doesnt come with anything to "seal it" though. Just a upper rad support.

Not stealing this guys pic or anything, just using it for reference..

Actually I had considered that exact setup, but the K^N is so much more money than the Volant. I got the Volant for $218.00.
