Default Which Cam?

I have asked LE to spec me out a cam.

My car currently is just bolt ons. Pacesetter LT's, ORY, K&N CAI, Trickflow Elbow, 3:42 gears, mail order tune, built transmission.

They suggested either a 228/236 .576/.571 110 LSA or 232/240 578/.574 110LSA

I plan on getting a 3600 stall converter to compliment the powerband of either cam.
Also, I am thinking about getting the heads milled .02, to raise the compression.

Any words of wisdom or suggestions on which cam I would see better gains from?

The smaller one looks fine, honestly I'd tighten the LSA a bit as you're on a stock top end. If you were going to mill them, use a shim gasket, and throw a nice valve job in there you'd pick up a good 15-20 hp with either cam.

I'd go with the smaller one in a 350-355. As for cam vs cam, how much low end do you want to sacrifice for some power up top. If you spend most of your time above 5500rpm, then the bigger one would benefit you, otherwise go with the 228/236, especially with 3.42's.

I was planning on some GM performance .028" gaskets.

I was thinking about the larger one, when I am getting on it, it will be over 3600 rpm with the converter. So I won't see that low end loss. But I also don't want to have to rev so high to make peak.

What about when it locks up on the highway? And it's not like the converter skips the lower RPM range all together.

What do you do with this car? Daily driver, weekend warrior, strip?

what he said ^..........focus more on power under the curve and keeping ur rpm to a safe limit id go with the small one but maybe toss a couple degrees of advance into the cam 110+4.....

If you're not touching the heads then the smaller cam.

My cam is 232/240 .595/.595 110 LSA but my heads are practically LE3's.

both are too small... id go for a 256/264 .660/.660 104 LSA

just kidding, from experience having a "smaller" cam in a 396, the mid range power is alot of fun, go for the smaller cam.

What would my compression ratio be if I took .020 off the heads and went with a .028 gasket?

That would be .042 less then stock.

I used an online calculator and got 11.8:1

Does that sound right?

If you daily the car, I'd probably tighten up the LSA a little. A 110 is gonna be a choppy-er idle with less throttle response than a 112 or 114. The same goes for the duration- longer duration = less street friendly, more top end, less bottom end.

I just recently ordered a 230/238 113+2 LSA ~.600 lift from Geoff at EPS. This was the largest cam he recommended that wouldn't give up much, if any, driveablility.

So I went to order my LE cam, they only accept money order, cash, or cashiers checks.

Any advice?

Advice? Get a money order, cash, or cashiers checks. You can get a money order from the Post office or a grocery store.
