I drove mine in the snow and had no problems. Granted i threw ~50 pounds in the well of the trunk. On the rear i had Firestone Wide Ovals and some crappy kumhos on the front at the time.
*Its an Auto btw.

Exactly what caprice said. If you know how to drive, there is no problem with rwd in the snow. I drove an 86 ws6 TA as my dd when I was younger all winter with no issues. SNow tires do help though.

I'd say good luck with out snow tires.. I tried last fall... And failed..
I thought so long as I made it off my street where theres still snow and on to the main road to the highway I would be good to go. So I put about 75lbs of weights in the back one day when there was just a LAYER of snow on the ground not even a 1/2", and I couldn't even pull away from my driveway LOL. I took my foot off the gas and brake and with the car in 1st the tires still spun and my backend kicked out everrr so slowly. It was about 35 out and my Fuzion zri's on my salad shooters were rock solid. It was actually pretty funny how bad it was, so the bird went back in the garage..

I got snowed in a driveway when picking up my car from the shop. 2" of snow..... had to get 4 people to push me out and I made it home 5 miles in about an hour. Posi, 6sp, new clutch, and Pirelli P-Zero tires...... no bueno.

Unless you have mud tires....leave it in the garage. I put mine over the curb Jan 2010, busted a wheel and put the right strut on the floor board. I was in second gear just tryn to get to work, made 250 yards from the last stop sign. but she is fixed and chilln in drive way. NO SNOW FOR ME!!!

i did it last year. the day after blizzard snow was off road but it was icey. going uphill will not happen at a light. you have to time the light and start going before it turns. I will not drive it again, it isnt worth the risk
Either tell him to wait a save more money until march.
Or if he gets one put about 200 pounds in the trunk and get snow tires and always have full tank.
The old cars were tanks with rwd, in weight and had no power. thats why they could do it.
