Shimmed hydraulic lifters??
I'm in the middle of a cam install for my lt1 a le grind 232/240.. I came across a deal of some comp cam 850-16 lifters that have been profesional shimmed I would like to know what are the gains of a stock lifter and a lifter that has been shimmed.

To make the hydraulic lifter act more like a solid lifter. Sounds similar to what the Stock Eliminator guys do. Not sure if they use shims or what, but I know their lifters do not plunge down like a stock lifter does. Those lifters sound like a solid with a tiny amount of travel to eat up any lash.
As far as gains with a camshaft like that, I would say zero. A stock lifter would be more than capable of handling a camshaft that was designed to be used with a stock set of lifters.

depends on the lobes on the cam and the spring pressures needed to control the valvetrain. Its only going to help if the opening ramp is quick enough to bleed the lifter more than the total shimmed travel. If the lifter was left with .020" travel but your combination only causes .015" bleed down you won't see any gains.
