Probably not going to happen unless you reuse just about everything...done properly you're looking at $2500+, easy.

I am actually in the same boat you are... (just got a 96 SS Camaro)... I was looking at cl and you can find a 50-60k mile LT1 and trans for 600-1100.00... I was going to get one and port the heads, cam, nitrous, tune. I can either keep the trans as a extra or sell it. My car is a a4. I know alot of these LT1's can take abuse over 100k so a low mile one should do well imo and it would be cheap.

I found a oem rebuild kit off summit racing for 500. Im either thinking about buying a extra motor and just slowly start to build her. Reliablity is my biggest concern and having the extra horsepower is just a plus. Do you think I should go that route just buy and extra motor my best friend is a certified mechanic and he's gonna help me rebuild the motor cause I do want to learn all i can on this car

The OEM rebuild kit is almost certainly using sub-par parts and is NOT worth the $500. If reliability is your biggest concern find a REPUTABLE machine shop and let them pick the parts, let them do the assembly. You can be there to learn while they do it, I'm sure they won't mind.
