I didn't move the lock in the nut that adjusts the preload so I am going to reassemble and make sure I'm off the cam lobe and see where it had it set before. That will tell me if I had it set with enough preload to begin with. All I did was back the nut off and did not touch the allen lock in the center, that should get me very close to where I had it before to give me an idea of how much preload was on that rocker.

I ordered a replacement rocker arm that i will get tomorrow. I will test my current one today just to check how much preload I had on it then tomorrow I will put the new rocker on and take her for a drive so long as everything goes well.

If it continues to break up as you creep to 6K and above, don't push it. Order stronger springs.

I never had this issue before when I would push it past 6k and it didnt want to. The only difference was the preload and the locators are a little bit thicker. I have ran it to the same rpm a bunch of times in the past trying to figure out what was wrong with the power. Only this time a rocker came off. I feel like I adjusted it wrong. We will find out later when I test what I had the preload set to.

Ok so I put it back together and the preload was set correctly or very close. No idea why it popped off but I'm going to preload a little bit more with the next rocker and hopefully it doesnt pop off again. Fingers crossed.....

So I put the new rocker on and took her for a drive and only spun her to 5k so far but all seems well. I will be testing the higher rpms today. Crossing my fingers!

Well I spun the engine up to 6150rpms according to datamaster. I have a datalog file I made today driving around, got on it a few times. Does anyone know how to really distinguish if there is any kind of problem? I personally don't see any huge issues and it didnt seem to really drop off powerwise but it didnt seem to like the high rpms either. Not sure why. It ran pretty good right up until I let off. I guess I'm just nervous that the rocker will come off again. Wimpy me, haha. Sometime I will push her farther but today I just wasn't feeling it. Both times since putting the car back together is has started with the check engine light coming on for too lean on the driver side and then when I start driving it goes out. I check fuel pressure while driving and I have right around 40psi WOT. It's around 37psi at idle. Car seemed to start hard yesterday also. (Hence why I checked fuel pressure) The hard starting started right after doing this work. Fired right up today so I have no idea.

I think a winter mod is going to be guideplates with non self adjusters. I like the idea that if I run guideplates my chances of a rocker coming off will be very slim.

I feel you on that one. NSA's are on my short list. I should've done that the first time around.

Well I am reviving this thread. I just had the ability to get back to the track now that I have 3.73's and I thought I had the high RPM power loss problem figured out. I only had one chance to make a run as this track was super slow and managed like ****. Anyways I ran a 12.6@111. The car bogged less than in the past but seemed to not pull that great at the high RPMs. Needless to say the best time I have to date (that was with the original 3.07's) was a 12.4@113.5, best MPH I have with the 3.07's is 116. So I MUST be down on power. 3.07 to 3.73 and I loose MPH? That seems very odd to me.

I am trying to set up a time very soon to get the car on a dyno to see what is going on with the power and where it's dropping off. Any ideas? I'm starting to think the heads I bought from a member on CamaroZ28 forum don't actually flow as good as the numbers they gave me. That would make sense to me because when the RPMs climb the stock head flow would start to drop off at like 5500rpms. I also have the valve lash set to 1/8 of a turn as recommended to reduce possible pump up. I thought I had the problem fixed but I guess I didn't. I'm stumped.

Also the car was warm but not excessive. The fans I believe are set to come on at 180 and the fans had just turned off from idling waiting to run. It was like 60 degrees out also.

Dyno told me they charge $150/hour and it takes an hour to do 3 pulls. I think that's pretty high for no tuning and JUST doing a few pulls to get HP/Torque numbers. I questioned them about that and have yet to hear back. How far off the normal rate is $150 for 3 pulls?

Yeah, way too high...PCM for less only charges $75 for 3 pulls, no tuning...it only takes 30 minutes or so of their time or so to strap it down, setup the fans, ect.

Then again you are in NY....everything is more expensive in NY.

Yea no kidding! I moved into the hudson valley from the finger lakes and everything is twice as expensive as where I used to live. Its really annoying. I hate NY. Me and the wife were talking about moving out of state (to NC actually) but it just didn't happen. Maybe someday..... You can dream right? haha
