Default What is a good Throttle Body? Need some suggestions.

Alright so i'm biting the bullet and doing LE2s and cam this winter. What is a good 58MM TB that won't give me problems? I searched but didn't find anything that helped. I know there's quite a few brands but what will be some of the best ones?

Love my TPIS 58mm. Had to adjust the blades, TPS position during installation, but zero problems since.

He's right, but with a healthy H/C setup you'll limit its potential with a rebored 52/54 mm stocker. So, don't be discouraged.........just dig into the info on this site on how to make the aftermarket 58's work with high overlap cams, and it will be worth it. Search "split BLM"
FYI, I run a 58mm Holley - beautiful billet piece that I picked up 2nd hand, but if you get the Holley and it hasn't already been fixed by someone else, you need to modify the mechanical stop to prevent the butterflies from going over center. If you don't, you'll get a TPS error and it will throw your tranny into limp mode.
I've run a BBK with a stock cam and it worked flawlessly out of the box.

If your cam has very little overlap, there's a slim chance you might escape the split BLM issue.

Now I have another question. Since I have a '93, the TB is slightly different. I think it's only the IAC valve though. How can I find the correct one? or can I bolt on my IAC plate and valve to the new TB?

for an automatic 93 you would need one with provisions for the kickdown cable.

Actually if you want to keep your current TB intact PM me and I will try and find the 93 IAC and baseplate that came with the BBK I bought used. Most of the aftermarket TBs want you to swap on your baseplate with the coolant circuit and IAC.

I have an M6 so i'm good there. So you're saying most Aftermarket TBs will accept my stock IAC plate if I needed to switch?

Exactly what about the TPIS unit is so nice that it is worth the extra coin? Billet? Or is it something that adds to better function?

The pictures I have seen show it to have the same IAC issues as all the rest. Actually wose issues than my early BBK unit though newer BBK units have the same "V" cut.

Shied away from the BBK after hearing about shaft binding issues, quality issues. Pricing was not that much higher for the TPIS. Have no personal experience with other aftermarket TBs. Have certainly learned enough since then that I'd do some things differently if it wasn't a max-effort NA track car. If I built the same car today, I'd probably go 52mm for a build like mine, 58mm for a 383+.

My off the shelf cam has 53-54* of overlap. Guess that's not enough to push me into split BLMs.

Only real difference is the blade shaft bearings are roller bearings if I remember correctly. Reducing play/problems from wear compared to the brass bushings in all the other TBs. They also have a billet IAC housing, like the AS&M TBs. the IAC has those passages that lead in to the intake plenum like all the others though.

I really like my TPIS TB, though I got it for $300 since when I asked for the polished look they only had a used but cleaned up one off their shop camaro and it would have been a bit before they made more.

I've had a number of them, by far the best I've used is the one from Arizona Speed & Marine. BBK was ok and the Holley would stick.

No complaints with my edelbrock tb. The IAC is sealed off from the plenum too.

Edelbrock/BBK changed over the years, mine the IAC was sealed from the plenum but a friend who bought more recently got one that was not.

Far as the monoblade, those destroy the IAC circuit, idle and low speed operation will tend to foul the rear plugs because the front cylinders take all the air. They are also a bit like an on/off switch. I would not do it unless aiming very high with a stroker.

I think power wise it can't hurt but driveability is touchy and IAC is destroyed without some creativity and fabrication, MUCH more than needed with the other TBs..

My LPE/Accell billet TB has been good to me. When it was new the throttle stuck on it a few times, but that hasn't happened in years. Just did the drill mod a few months ago and it makes for much smoother idle whenever PCM has to relearn.
