Default Cam swap on my 93 LT1

I have a bolt on 93 trans am and am looking for some extra power. I plan on a motor swap to an LS2 or LS3 in the future but not for a while. In the mean time I would like to have a little more fun with my trans am. Dont wanna spend the money to get new heads for it, may just port and polish mine now. I would like to put a heavy cam in it though to get good sound and extra power. Its not a daily driver so I dont mind it being a pretty radical cam, so could anybody suggest a cam for me to get some great power and a nice lobe? Also, dont wanna spend money on rockers or anything like that but would a new set of fuel injectors help out with the cam swap? I figure I will need new pushrods and valve springs as well. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, and have a great one.

And don't forget to match the Cam dowel pin to your stock cam.

I looked at the specs on that Comp Cam 503 http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/07-503-8/10002/-1 is this the one? Then the 918 are valve springs i guess? Also are our rockers 1.5 or 1.6? Worth the upgrade? Pretty big duration, what kind of gains can I expect? Thanks for all the information!

Ours are STAMPED 1.5s, very weak, and self aligning. You want non self aligning (nsa) full rollers. Definately worth the upgrade, expect about 40rwhp with the cam and rockers and rest of valvetrain.

A friend of mine from school owns Jones Racing Cams in North Carolina. He does a lot of stuff for both Indy Car and NASCRAP among other things. I am going to send him my stock cam to be reground for my LT1 but it will require LS7 Lifters. I am in the same situation as you are as I either have enough stuff to build a 500+ HP SBC in my shop or I am just going to stuff an LS* motor in mine when I really want to upgrade my engine package. I dont see much use in spending a ton on the LT1 when I have everything else to do something else.

Save your mony for a lsx swap I say spray it if you must do something then you will have a kit for your lsx as well and your not wasting money on mods you won't be using in the next motor

Just did the 503 swap myself...upgrade to 30# injectors is really a must. I am very happy with this cam upgrade, gobs of torque and good top end. U dont want to go to 6400 on the stock bottom end. Or go custom grind. I have been told recently told that a regrind must be re-heat treated or u could blow a motor up. TorF????

So would you say you got pretty significant gains from it??

I did the exact same setup as the second post. Its a stout setup and one that is best for both Worlds. Its a nice gain in power, and I can get over 20 mpg highway. You can't go wrong.

I believe that is true but I am not sure. Your cam grinder will know for sure!
