Default problem changing fuel filter

Changed the fuel filter on my 94 firehawk and when I took the filter out, fuel just kept pouring out of the hose, had to put the filter on while it was still flowing. WTF! never saw that before. It is extremely low mileage, what could it be? Thanks

It seems like it won't stop, but it will (or should, LOL).

Haha, no literally, I coulda drained the gas tank. I waited and easily had 2 or 3 quarts in a drain pan. Is there a check valve in the pump that could be bad? Thanks

I'm assuming you relieved fuel system pressure first, right? I just changed mine last week, and very little fuel came out of it. Another thing I can tell you is that I'd think that less fuel would come out if you let the car sit for awhile before the swap instead of doing it right after having it running.

Yes I relieved the pressure before starting. Car was not running for atleast a week before I changed the filter. It wasn't shooting out like it was under pressure. It just kept pouring out like there was nothing to stop it.

haha, yeah, i got it back on. But if there is possibly a problem in the tank I would like to fix it before it completely breaks. Should be easy to drain the gas before I store it for the winter tho.

Why would you drain the tank before winter?

empty and refill full with fresh gas. Car has only 82 miles on it. I never use a tank of gas. I end up using it in my snowblower.

Better to store the car with a full tank of gas rather than an empty tank.

yeah, the low miles comes with its own set of problems, no doubt about that. I got 2 other lt1 cars tho, so that provides the fix.

Take off the gas cap then relieve the pressure on the fuel rail via the Schrader valve.

I relieve pressure from the schrader valve. I didnt take the gas cap off. But I never have when changing a fuel filter.

Modded ones. Lightly. My 95 firehawk has a rebuilt motor, nothing special, small cam, roller rockers. My 25th TA has an intake, and some cosmetic stuff. My 98 SS is my project car. HCI 430rwhp. Not much left that is stock. lol
