Default Best Rod for 600hp

Whats up guys. So my last motor (Ford) I went with eagle I beams and I through a rod . Now im going to do it smart this time. What Rods do you recommend for strength to weight ratio? I was thinking a set of Olivers for 8000rpm max. I was also considering Compstar or CP-Carrillo. AI recommended Compstar.

600hp is not really a lot to ask of a SBC rod either of the ones you are looking at will be just fine.

I went with Lunati pro mods with my build with similar horsepower goals. It is RPM's that kill rods and not necessarily horsepower. RPM plus a heavy piston = extra loads on the caps/rod bolts and bearings. As said above, the ones you listed would be fine.

I would run an ARP2000 rod bolt, not the 8740 or the L19.

Besides less clearancing, any reason you like the 2000's over the L19's?

Just curious .

Besides price and clearance, I've seen a L19 fail when it shouldn't have. Never had a problem with the 2000 or the 8740 if you don't abuse them.

I see, was just wondering since I have never seen a problem with either that I could clearly blame the rod bolt since they are both strong as hell. Just making sure there wasn't some new widespread problem with them popping up from a bad batch or something.

When my block was apart to fix the mistakes the first builder made, my shop asked if I wanted L19s or 2000s and said 2000s are more then enough, but L19s wouldn't cost much more and allow more headroom if I get crazy in the future. He knew I was shooting for the 625-650 range now, but out of curiosity I asked what if I wanted, say, 4 digits in the future . Since most of the clearancing was already done for L19s, and I change my mind a million times per year, I had them put another set of them in just in case.

FWIW to the OP, even Eagle SBC rods will easily handle 800hp when assembled correctly and using a quality rod bolt.

I always used the 2000's and you get what you pay for. Went with eagle and was a horrible tune, but even with that I still think an Oliver would of survived the abuse I gave that ford.
