Default Check engine light comes on and fans kick on. Help

Ok so this morning the engine light comes on.. I look at the gauges and everything is fine.. Temp gauge is only at the 1/4 mark.. Then the fans kick on. Car was still running great and the temp never got over the 1/4 mark. Kept driving it and pulled off down the road for a min and shut it off.. Popped the hood and everything was fine. Crank it back up and the light is off. I pull out onto the road and get going and the light came on and the fans kicked on again at the same time. Is this anything to worry about? Maybe the fan switch is bad? Usually the fans would never come on this early.

The fans come on whenever the SES light is set (on most codes) as a precaution NOT because there is something wrong with the fans.

You don't mention which car this is happening on but if it's the 93 you can just use the paperclip trick to pull the code(s). If it's the 94 you'll have to have it scanned.

Short version - pull the codes.

EDIT: Just saw your 94 has been sold so pull the codes.
