No SES after headers normal?
A friend of mine just put longtubes on his 97 Z28. As of now its open headers (been that way for a week) and still hasn't got a check engine light. All at the same time he deleted the egr and AIR system and no light is on for anything. Is that normal?

We're not sure if the car had ever been tuned before. It had a k and n intake, smooth 90 degree elbow, air foil, muffler delete, and a crt sticker I'm thinking turned out to be a aftermarket opti, and a 4.10 gear and the speedo was off so I'm assuming not but its possible.

I would think it's very odd for a stock PCM not to trip the ses light with what you said. Deleting the EGR or AIR will trip the light. 99% of header installs will.
Could have a broken light bulb. Should get some
Mufflers or straight pipes on that car though.

Hes ordering one of the summit universal x pipe kits and dumping it with 2 bullets. He doesn't have the car tagged yet but hes driven it up and down by his house and started it daily. He couldn't decide between single 4" or dual 3"s. Thats why its been open headers. I'm going to take my scan tool up there and see what happens. My LS car had a wire coming off the pcm that would disable the light but caused it to throw a ground code. I'll see if someones messed with the wiring or if it could be bulb.

I suppose it's possible someone swapped in an OBD1 pcm. When I had a 97, that was one of the first mods I did because I could delete the EGR and AIR and rear O2s with no codes. But then I purchased tunercat and tuned them out as well. OBD1 tuning software is A LOT less expensive than OBD2 so many guys swapped their pcm out for that reason alone.
