97 SS air intake upgrade question
So is there a better option for a 97 Camaro SS for Air induction as opposed to the stock SS ram air setup? I see people saying Lid+CAI, I'd like to hear from SS owners who have done a swap of the stock induction for something else. thank you.

I went from stock system to the SLP CAI. Most will tell you that the LS1 Lid setup is the way to go, as far as actual HP #'s go. I agree, but I really didn't want to hack up my hood, radiator support, or remove the AC.

Most will argue that heat soak and restricted plumbing are the down sides to the stock SS airbox. That is why I went with the SLP CAI.
Call me nuts, but seeing as my car is a true SLP car, I wanted to keep the intake SLP.

I swapped it for a LPE CAI about 6 months after buying mine. Mostly because it was always in the way when I was wanting to do something to the engine. Dave Hamburgler himself has admitted the location of the air inlet on the hood is in a dead spot air flow wise and provides very little benefit. I love the looks of the hood, however.

K&N cai here (sold from summit under their name save you some cash) with a trickflow elbow, made a huge difference from the ram crap that slp designed the only benefit to the old lt1 style ram air i can see is its almost impossible to suck up water with the hood baffles and height its at

I cut the hood baffle out and it helped some. The major problem is that the air is being sucked in the very right side of the intake. Look at a dirty filter, it uses maybe a 1/3 of the filter. I have since switched to a LS1 lid setup. Took alot of work but it fits under the stock hood and looks factory.
