Default Comparing the TFS 31402081 Cam and the CC 503

TFS Track Max Camshaft

Int - 220 Ex - 227 LSA - 113 Lift w/1.5 RR .530/.530

CC 503

Int - 224 Ex - 230 LSA - 112 Lift w/1.5 RR .503/.510

TFS cam is new, CC 503 is used, same price.

Starting to put together a mild 355 that my wife can drive. Mods are LTs, exhaust and a tune. Will also add 1.6 rockers but haven't bought yet. Stock "new" heads for now, but will added ported stock castings later this year. Your thoughts on potential and drivability with a 355.

I'd say the 503 cam, just because I run it my car. I also have supported ported stock cast heads and intake, LTs 3in all the way back, and a mail order tune. Also my build is a 377, but from the hours of research that I did, I felt that the 503 cam was just where I wanted to make my power without spinning the motor to high heaven and back, and get away with using a stock stall. IMO, 503 is great cam for a DD. My setup is my current DD FWIW. Any idea how many miles is on that 503 cam?

They're both extremely similar cams but the lift on the TFS will be a bit higher on 1.6s and will require slightly better springs -- about 0.565" lift for TFS vs 0.538/0.544 for 503 if I remember correctly. The higher lift on the TFS could compensate for less duration if you're looking for power but I'm not sure if the driveability would be any better or worse (probably a negligible difference).

If the 503 is used then talk the seller down a bit. It's a very common cam and there are a million tunes for it just floating around.

For $60 more you can get a brand new CC503 from Colorado Speed and free shipping. That's where I'll be going. I agree with Speed Demon I really don't like the idea of putting a used cam in...even though it's not really a big deal...I just don't like to.

I daily drive the cc503 and really like it, but for this build I'd go with the slightly milder TF cam. Your wife will probably like the idle quality alot better with it's slightly less duration and +1* LSA.

$$$ would be a factor, but the XFI466 would also be a nice choice for a mild cam that still makes good power.

Default Tpis zz9?

If its for your wife TPIS claims 19" vacuum for their ZZ9 cam, but they are expensive: ZZ9 ,95-97 LT1212/226 @ .050 .483/.520 112 LSA, 6.CAM110, $375.00.

Good luck,
cardo
