Default Need help on oil pump replacement!

Hey, My buddy's 1994 Camaro Z28 is going to be needing a new oil pump. I am going to be replacing it with him. The car is an automatic 4l60e. If someone could show me a "how to", id really appreciate it. Just trying to get the job done right for him. Also is there anything else that should be replaced while in the process of replacing the oil pump?

Thanks,
Greg

Oil pumps rarely fail. Maybe you could elaborate on why the pump is thought to be needed, before going to all the trouble to replace it.

At cold idle she will hang right around 20psi, once she warms up it drops dramatically to probably right about 2-4psi of oil. He took me out for a ride in it and thats when i noticed his issue. When he really stepped on it, the psi only raised to right around 20 at the most. When she heats up she gets a slight shake to her at idle and the check gauges light comes on every now and then due to the oil pressure being so low.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that the pump is bad. Sounds more like bearings to me, especially since the oil pressure drops so much when warmed up.

Yeah that was my biggest fear. If it is the bearings i believe we are just going to do an ls swap to her.

why swap it? you can rebuild an LT1 for a couple hundred bucks and have basically a fresh motor again. with an ls swap, you'll probably be putting in another motor with 100k+ on it, as well as having to buy all the swap parts to do it.
if you want more power, freshen the LT1 and do a heads/cam. you can make well over 400rwhp if you get a real nice setup.
imo, of course.

That is not likely to be the pump's fault. Probably bearing clearance issues. However, you should consider verifying the pressure with a mechanical gauge. Old sensors have a habit of reading low.
