Default The trouble with my LT1 continues

After 2 months, the Wife picked up the Camaro yesterday from the mechanic my Father-in-law hired. The 355 was in, all systems were declared a "go".

Once more the wife was headed to the DMV to finally register the vehicle and 2 miles down the road, SES light on, car stuttering...she pulled into a bank and smoke started pouring out of the hood. She called Dad, he showed up, the Radiator cap had blown, fluid everywhere.

Car was towed to a Radiator shop...few hours go by, Wife emailed me and said "they are saying it is a blown head gasket".... Seriously? 2 ******* miles after a rebuild a head gasket blows?

Apparently my F.I.L. is inquiring into the warranty. More to follow.

I think you pissed someone off and they made a voodoo doll of your car and are just laughing menacingly while stabbing it with needles.

Well, since the radiator cap blew out like that... could be a head gasket. Someone made a boo boo putting your motor together Sorry to hear that man. I just sank a butt load into my car, only to remember more issues that are wrong with it. Such a love/hate with my LT1

If its JUST the head gasket and the bottom end is fine, at least its not a total loss..

Sorry just trying to be an optimistic, since you seem to have nothing but bad luck with this car

Was the air bled properly out of the system when it was first started? What did they do to confirm the head gasket failure?

I would check the little water pump coupler for the water pump drive. Lots of people lose or forget that thing. I know a guy who bought a 94 Z28, tore the heads off, found no evidence of anything wrong, so he pulled the water pump to discover no coupler. It was just like a head gasket issue too.

Thanks all,

The wife has nothing further to report as of today. Probably looking at Monday afternoon to hear anything. I'll talk to my F.I.L. this weekend about it and make recommendations. On a positive, I sure am keeping the milelage low! We've had it almost 7 months now. Just over 2 miles on the odometer since it arrived.

Lessons learned:
- Never Buy a Car off of eBay on consignment.
- If the shop that works on it immediatly responds with "we absolve all responsibilty" when you tell them the Engine let go right after you start it. They are lying.
- Never agree to letting a family member help you pay for a repair until you know the full extent of the damage. I could have a brand new LS2 in this thing for what we've sunk in it combined so far.

That was a reference to the first shop, I can't speak of the 2nd shop just yet. I do have a warranty on the Engine build of 3/36 but we need to determine if it was install error or build error.
