Default Ford 9' inch questions and prices

Hey guys a local guy offers ford 9 inch rears complete with disk brakes, gear ratio of my choice and 31 spline axles. the price is 1800 bucks, and my question is is this worth it. The car it will be going into is my bolt on car, and possibly a 355 heads and cam further down the road. Or would it be more cost effective to just re-do my 10 bolt. Let me know guys.

Do those rears just bolt in to f bodies? Some of them require some work to get them to fit. For that price id probably look into a vendor instead. Proven work and usually a guarantee behind it.

I wouldnt rebuild the 10 bolt though.

Is the rear designed for a 4th Gen F-body, or a generic 9-inch Ford?

If it is a used rear from a major name like Strange, Moser, ect... that was built for a 4th gen then I would say depending on the manufacturer of the center section, axles and differential it has, it may be worth the price. If it is some no-name garage fabbed rear with a Ford Center I would shy away for that price.

yeah the guy is real short with my questions. He makes them to fit 4th gens, and foxbodies. Its just a local guy who advertises in the auto-locator, and has been advertising for years so i thought i would check him out. Is 1800 bucks to salty for something like that?

I would get full details and pictures, if not go in person.

I had an S60 obviously built by Strange. 4.10s, S-Trac, 35 spline axles, 2" studs, welded BMR relocation, plus a chrome moly driveshaft for under 3000 delivered to my door.

$1800.00 complete with brakes sounds very cheep. I would be very careful. It's real easy to say something has brand name parts if they are hidden and can't be verified.

Good Luck.

A built 9" or S60 is going to cost around 2500 bucks, without brakes, ready to bolt into a 4th gen.

1800 isn't right.

One thing to think about: the rear of the car has to be higher with a 9". If you use taller slicks, you can't get the car back level. I have a couple of friends with F body race cars, and I asked one why not get the ***-end of that thing down out of the air? He said it was as low as it would go and the 3rd member not hit the floor. An automatic car should be fine with a 12 bolt. When I had mine back-halved I said I wanted the tubs high enough that the car could sit level with big tires under it. It does with 32" tires, and it can still go lower. Could not do that with a 9".
If I had a stick car I would have to live with a 9", and the back end up in the air.
Short tires, you can probably get it level.
