Default Pushrod length tool

When using a pushrod length checker do you need to buy the plastic rocker arms? Or can you just use the rocker arm you plan to use on the build? Just wondering as I was about to order a length checker and saw the rocker arms sold seperate. Thanks.

I've always used the intended rocker arms.
