Default N20 and cam questions.

hey guys another n20 and cam build question thread. Here is what i have been thinking about, and what i hope to learn.

From my understanding the lt1 can handle n20 pretty well if tuned properly and if its in good running shape right?

What is a safe shot if tuned, and on a fresh motor. I have an extra lt1 that has around 80xxx miles that i can have sent off to be redone or freshened up.

here is what my plans are if i go this route, and please steer me in the rite path if im wrong.

1.ARP rod bolt's
2.stock rods and crank, gone over.
3.cc306 or a custom grind with all supporting mods, lifters, pushrods, 1.6rr's,spring ect
4.Forged pistons, i dont know which would be good for this. Maybe howards cams forged??? Any suggestions
5.msd opti, and 6al. From research both are a good choice.

Things im curious about

1. How do the stock rods, and crank handle n20? If i dont have to i wont bore it, but i will put new pistons in it.
2.Can i rev past 6200 with rods bolt's forged pistons?
3. which n20 kit? zex, nx outlet, nos??

What can i expect from a cammed, stalled, geared and suspension n20 build.
One reason i want to do this is i can always build upon the n20, and add more as the car grows, for now im just planning. Will be on stock heads for now till i can figure out which one to go with. Thanks again everyone!!

I will start off with a 50 shot, and work my way up to around a 125 shot for those who are wondering.

Get arp bolts with a custom nos cam then tune it. Spray a 150-200 shot and let her rip

No more than a 200 shot to stay in the safe zone...

What year is your motor? 92-94 (or 95 I can't remember) had the better rods, and those rods are not known for any failures. The stock crank is not going to give any trouble. With a forged lightweight piston and a well tuned setup you can spray the **** out of it with that setup as far as the stock PCM can handle, or about 7000 rpm. Pick up a used 306 for $100 and build from there. Use some 0.026 gaskets to bump your compression and let her rip. once funds come you will have a strong short lock to build on. There are guys running stock pistons rods and crank with arp bolts to 7000 rpm with no issues.

So if you put arp bolts on the rods on a stock bottom end LT1 you can safely spin it to 7k rpms?

Not quite that simple. Anytime you change rod bolts, you must resize the rods.
I spin 7000+ on a stock bottom end, but it was rebuilt by somebody who knows what they're doing.
