Default Opinion for exhaust for the car

I must be getting old but it is just too loud. Headers, xpipe with bullets and turn downs is a little much. Great for power but horrible for the neighbors and cops

I was looking at the true dual kooks setup but damn its crazy in cost! I wish I could hear it in person. I am thinking about just a nice cat back with dual e-cutouts.

What would you guys recommend? The car should be around 850-900 rwhp

Thanks
Steve

So you have a 900whp LT1 and you're trying to quiet it down?

What's done to the car?

To be honest I am to. I have had it since 1998 and the paint and interior still look almost brand new. It just turned 43K miles th other day on the way to work.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds mean as Fvuck, it is just a little much haha. I try to drive it on Fridays to work as I go in early and can get the prime parking. I want to drive it as much as I can before the hot temps get here as it no longer has A/C!!

You would be surprised what just running the exhaust out the back of the car will do to interior noise. I ran a similar setup (kooks, x pipe, spiral flows dumped at the axle) and it was just crazy. Sounded great at stop lights and all but I couldn't hear the stereo unless it was at hearing loss levels. At the moment I am running Kooks stepped headers, 3" y pipe to a 4" catback with spintech muffler. I also have cutouts for annoying the neighbors at 3 AM (jerks like to rev their harleys when I'm trying to sleep during the day). I also put dynamat (sp?) all through the car which helped a ton.

well to just quiet it down the borla catback is not a bad option at all, especially with the different plates you can toss in. But at like 900 new ish it's on the high side of things lol. I'm going on the hunt for either that or a gmmg for mine, me thinks slp LM2 plus ORY and LT'S is going to get annoying quick.

I would assume with that much power you would benifet from a 4" system?

About a year ago I helped a buddy with a 4" catback. He didn't like the mufflers that came with any of the 4" catback systems on the market. We ended up using a hooker aerochamber muffler and a mufflex cat back system and combined them.

We used dual 3" pipes for the Y-pipe which merged with a flowmaster merge (dual 3" into a single 4") to mate with the catback. The hooker comes with a 3" inlet but the inlet is cone shaped down to the 3" OD. If you cut the inlet off right at the muffler it is a 4" opening to accept the larger 4" cat back. It took a fair amount of cutting and welding but it turned out very nice and really couldn't tell it was all pieced together when we were finished.

My buddy and myself had both been running the aerochamber cat back 3" system and liked the sound of it which is why we went with that muffler on the 4" setup. We were both really surprised at how much the sound chaged by just going from the 3" to the 4" catback with the same muffer. Sounds much deeper but seemed to quiet it down a little.
