Default Sputter at low RPM's

Since I had 3 hours to drive my Caprice home from Michigan I noticed something. The check engine light came on and off every couple minutes. Also at low RPM's it seems like the engine gets starved for fuel. It also runs very rich. Im thinking it is a bad O2 sensor which would explain the engine light, running rich, and the sputtering. What are your thoughts?

Most likely the O2, but possibly a burnt plugwire. That would also explain the SES Code(possiby from misfire), the sputtering at low RPM's(also caused by misfire), and the richness(sometimes but not always caused by misfires). However, I would tend to agree with you about it being an O2 Sensor.

I have a 1996 camaro SS and mine did the same and it was a 8 dollar coolent temp sensor on the waterpump, it cured the problem. might wanna check that before you go any further. it would help to code scan(autozone does it for free) get the code!!!!!!!

oh yeah i forgot to tell you that the reason it might be running rich is becouse that coolent switch it telling the computer that the motor is cold and its dumping more gas into it

I'd bet it's an O2.
