Default Headers contacting steering linkage

Hey I just installed some long tube headers on my camaro. it runs and sounds great; however, the driver side header rubs on the steering linkage whenever i turn the wheel. It is not horrible, the car is still driveable, its just annoying and a littlen hazardous. Does anyone know how i can fix this besides taking the linkage apart and putting a small dent in the header pipe? I have never taken the linkage apart before and would like not to do it if i dont have to. But if there is no other way could someone post steps on how to do it?

Thanks everyone

what headers did you put on? denting sounds like your only cure.. and or possibly eliminate that rag joint with a LS1 linkage

I had the same problem when I put pacesetter long tubes on my Camaro losen the steering bolt I think it's an 11 or 12 mm and slide the shaft down or out farther till it clears. The bolt hole is slotted

Loosen the bolt on the top side of the steering linkage. It may take some muscle but it should slide up enough to get it off the header primary.

Nice, exactly what I was saying too. It's an 11mm.

There is also some sort of metal gaurd on the steering linkage. You can take a cutoff wheel to it for some clearance. I remember mine at first was "notchy" and it was that peice catching on a primary with each turn of the steering colum.

Did you replace the motor mounts while you were at it?

Afew good tid bits here. first id suggest finding a LS1 steering shaft. Its smaller and eliminators the need for the rag joint. it just needs to be modified slightly. Also pull out the steering column and oblong the bolt holes in the firewall and slide it down. a last option should be to dent the header. If you can get away without doing so. Do it.

I had to use the LS1 steering shaft and then I had to move over the steering column to clear my Kooks LT headers. Royal PITA, but they finally clear.

I used the Unbalanced Engineering Rag Joint Eliminator Kit. Headers don't make any contact at all.

I stopped and talked to my local shop to get some more words of wisdom from him. He told me my motor mounts are bad and that he recommends getting some polyurethane mounts and that might lift the motor enough to clear the linkage. Because i checked and my linkage is already slid down as far as it can go,
