Default Dropping T56 NOW, quick ?

I just finished cracking the crossmember + bottom 6 bolts from the bellhousing to case. I supported the trans with my big floor jack, but I'm getting clear fluid leaking as I'm unbolting the slave from that area+ the seam between the bellhousing and trans.

What gives? I was under the impression that the LT1 had a closed non- bleedable system?! Anyway I want to get the replacement trans in by today so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

guess you blew your slave out... I usually disconnect that first before I take anything apart

Can you expand on that? What would've been the proper way to do it? How did it just blow out from me unbolting it?

When I unscrewed both bolts, out came the slave with a dogbone type piston that engages the clutch fork, and the housing with a rubber boot that sort of just fell out.

So what gives?

Edit: What I don't get is why fluid was leaking from the bottom of the seam between the trans and bellhousing.

I guess people can't help with the limited description. I think most want to help if they can. I just did a T56 swap in my LS and don't understand your issue...unless of course something is going on with your slave and it's puking the fluid. Finish tearing it down and post up some pictures of your issue. Good luck

Well the MC reservoir is dry so the slave must've let go, how I don't understand... 10k on it replaced 2 years ago, bullshit.

Sigh.

Now my question is, can I go ahead and install my replacement trans and button everything up as I order/ wait for the slave? Also since its a closed system, do I have to buy everything? Or can I just buy a slave that I can bleed. Whats the best way to go about things?

The car is sitting in the street on ramps jacked up, I'd really like to install the trans/ tq arm/ driveshaft today and deal with the hydraulics later if thats possible. Thanks.

You can put the trans in just fine without putting the hydraulics in. Your slave cylinder obviously blew out.
Just buy a whole new setup.

Thank you sir! Off I go, can't wait to maneuver the trans into position by myself

I forgot to mention, the top 2 trans/ bellhousing bolts were missing. I wasted an hour feeling around trying to get to them only to discover that they werent there. Maybe someone parting a car out can hook me up with 2 so I can do that as I do the hydraulics.

Rockauto sells an OEM master and slave together, I bought mine last year and it has every OEM mark on it and works great, $106 iirc.

bought half my slave on RockAuto aswell, was on a real tight budget so I got the cheap one. 6 months later and no problems yet. Make sure you give it a good bench bleed before install.

After reading about how much of a pain it can be to bleed, I want to get the whole assembly and have the peace of mind. Its part # 12559912 for $125 on GMPD but they want $33 for shipping. Dealer has it for list price of $245

$138 shipped on rockauto, cheapest price I found.

Thanks again. (Btw after I saw a pic of what the slave was supposed to look like, mine was FUBARED lol and I have no idea how it was even working).

Glad you got this figured out. Good luck with the project - they can test your patience at times.

Exactly. Maybe you were reading complaints of LS hydraulics, OP. LT1 hydraulics should take no longer than 10 minutes to bench bleed.

I can match RockAuto on that OEM part. (I do have them in stock to ship the same day)

They still are not meant to be bled, you have to pop out that pin and just gravity bleed it pretty much, just order the whole thing from Dickey or rockauto.

Why is there so much misinformation on this? That is NOT the way you bleed them. GM even has a procedure to bleed them, which is to pump the slave rod by hand. If they weren't meant to be bled, why is it in the GM manual?

I bled mine like a brake system... my clutch pedal is 100% normal :\

I'll look at my service manual when I get home, kinda curious now.
