Default Fuel pump swap?

Ok so I did the dreaded a couple years ago and swapped my stock pump with an ebay special. Now it's worked great until today. At the time I was able to use a lift and even then it was a bitch. I've heard and talk to many people who have talked of cutting a access hole in the rear. Has anyone else done this? I don't want to randomly just cut a whole because it looks close and be off 4 inches to the left right etc. Anyone help or have a pic for support? Thanks. Oh 1994 Formula

It's been done countless times. There are threads on here about it (did you search?), plus a link here.

Did the access door about 2003. Bought a spare pump to have in the car. In 2006 on a trip to Florida(from Ohio),pump went out on I95 in Florida, with the spare pump & tools in the hatch, had a new pump in in less than 15 minutes. Still have another spare always with me. Access doors are great.

Instead of a grinding wheel I'd suggest using tin snips. Much quicker and less messy.

You have to carry spare fuel pumps?? What brand? Factory pumps seldom fail to run well past 100,000 miles. Aftermarket crap, not so much.

I don't HAVE to carry a spare pump, but I do. I 'travel' a lot,171,000 miles on the Z. I keep a 'bag' in the hatch with parts, fuel pump, tensioner & idler pulleys, hose clamps, misc fasteners, fluids, drain pan, tools. Along with changing a fuel pump in Florida in 2006,in 2008 had to change thermostat in 2009 on thanksgiving day in Daytona in the motel parking lot. I had everything I needed except for the thermostat and finding an open auto store on thanksgiving morning took a while.
