Is it possible to have a double cut-out exhaust near the headers?

Default Is it possible to have a double cut-out exhaust near the headers?

I know this is a wild (and probably dumb to some people) idea, but I was wondering If it is possible to customize my exhaust, fit it with electric cut-outs on the y-pipe that normally has the engine exhaust flowing through the full pipes, and flip a couple switches closes that pipe and opens an exit right out of the y-pipe for that loud, almost-open-header sound? I'd like to drive around town with a nice sounding exhaust, pull up to another sports car, flip a couple switches, and instantly make it much louder just for a few seconds. (Obviously, I can't leave it like that for too long because it wouldn't have enough back pressure.)

But please give me some opinions, even if you think the idea is absolutely stupid!

I run headers with double elec cutouts in the first bends of the y pipe, have no problems with any/no back pressure, the cut outs are placed so that the exhaust has a stright shot out of the headers, my car a winds up faster with them open
( must lower the shift point from 6500 down 6100 to stop hiting the limiter)
One important point you need to remember, the open exhaust need to be 16-18 " beyound the o2 sensord so they do not read the fresh/out side air
You will like the setup

Wait... 16"-18" from the o2 sensors? Are they required? When I bought my LT1, it came with Edelbrock headers and the previous owner apparently didn't weld in the o2 sensors.

Say goodbye to ground clearance unless you plan on cutting the floor pan. I have this set up and I can't wait to UN do it.

For the record... it does sound BAD A$$ with them open!

Just put one cutout after the y when it merges to one pipe.. Unless you have a healthy cam, nice heads and cubes stock motors sound like a beat up van with open exhausts unless its spinning at 6000 rpms

Wait you have no O2 sensors? Thing must run like ****! You don't need double cutout a, just 1 in the I pipe below the rear passenger seat and your fine, very very common setup, however it has no tone and kinda sounds like **** on a stock cam IMO. I ditched my whole catback for a single 18" magnaflow bullet muffler off the Y pipe with no piping after it, sounds vicious now and the same flow as if I had a cutout.

If it's for sound then it's understood. For performance then it's completely unnecessary as long as your y-pipe is a quality piece with mandrel bends.

Edit- Unnecessary for two cutouts that is.
