Default Lt1 won't stay running!!!!! Help please!!

The car stars everytime no problem but then it just dies the next second... It will stay running if you peddle the gas or with starting fluid but it doesn't go over 3000 rpm.. I replaced the coil and the icm fuel filter plugs wires and I checked the fuel pressure it was just right above 40psi and I don't have my security light on... I been looking on countless forums seeing if anyone has a solution for this problem and had no luck at all. Hopeing someone has had this problem and can chim in and help me. Cause this problem is driving me insane!!

Not sure if it's related or not but this sounds like what my '89 z24 did when I had a bad fuel injector.

Now that I think about... When it died out on me it did back fire like a gun shot then wouldn't start at all... Untill I changed the icm.. Maybe it was the opti rotor came loose... But wouldn't it not start at all if the rotor came loose..???

when i had an opti out of time, my car would start and only go to maybe 2k rpms sometime 4k. But as soon as i let off the gas it would die, sounded a lot heavier cammed then it was as well.. backfired like crazy... check to make sure all injectors are firing first though, just place a long flat tip screw driver on the injector and your er on the handle to hear it actuating. Check fuel pressure when the car starts to die not just on prime. If all that is bad, id check the opti then

Have you checked each plug wire for spark?
What did the spark look like if you did ? Hot or weak spark
Plug wire on correctly?

I use a KV meter t9 check while car is running, this helps to narr9w down where the ignition problem is if there is any.

Could also pull the fuel rail and check for leaking injectors as well but most times an injector fails it will cause the plug to fail and gas will start puddling where the exhuast exits. But never hurts to check and make sure.

Hey guys thanks for all the stuff to check.. I checked the injectors and there fine. And the opti seems to be firing. I pulled the plugs to see if they was getting spark and was... But what I don't understand it. IT WILL STAY STARTED WITH STARTING FLUID!!!!! And my fuel pressure is fine

If this started right after a refuel, it could be contaminated fuel. also starting fluid is more flammable than gasoline so it will ignite with a weaker spark, pointing back to the opti. I have seen a defective rotor act exactly as you described.

Sounds like a fuel issue to me since the car will stay running with starter fluid. Is the fuel pressure gauge still installed? Did you check the pressure with the vacuum line removed from the top of the fuel pressure regulator?

How is the idle when using the starter fluid?

Then I don't see it being an ignition issue.

The fuel pressure gage I borrowed it from a friend so I don't have it anymore. I removed the cap on top of the fuel rail idk if that's what you are referrering to

Just making sure...besides removing the cap on the fuel rail did you also remove the schrader valve under the cap?
