'93 Z hard start sometimes
Hey all.
It's gotten to the point where it's starting to annoy me. Sometimes when I start my car, it fires right up, other times I have to sit there and crank on it for a few seconds. Battery volts are normal. No idea what might be causing it.

My 95' does it to, I checked fuel pressure and it was fine, but I installed a walbro 255lph pump anyway, then I changed to an MSD billet optispark, still did it, I am thinking it's something with the ICM I haven't got around to checking into that more though yet.
When it's warm it fires up perfect, just after sitting overnight or for a while it takes about 4 seconds to start it.
Also if you turn on the ignition and wait till you hear the fuel pump stop priming it will start faster.

I'll wait a bit longer before I start it next time.

it sounds like it could be the fpr or the check valve on the fuel pump. you can pull the vacuum line off the fpr and see if there's any fuel in the line use a fuel pressure gauge to test the check valve. it also could be a bad injector.

I never thought about the injectors. How do I check to see if one of them are bad? Just pull them out an take a look at em?

So I've been paying attention on how my car is parked the past few days, and MOST of the time it hard starts when its parked on a slope. I'm thinking it's gotta be the fuel pump. what to you all think?

So I found a burnt up wire that I think is the ground for the Alt (Do those even have grounds?) I messed around with it, and it starts a tiny bit better. This might be the source of my problem???
EDIT: the wire that;s burnt up thats connected to the alt is a red wire leading to the + terminal to the battery...

Mine's been doing the same thing, exactly how you guys described it. Most times it'll start up first try. But if I'm starting it cold, sometimes it takes a few seconds, or multiple cranks. It fires right up if it's warm though.

Ya'll gots issues. Hahaha.
Run the traps fuel, air, and spark. Here is how to check your fuel pressure
Unfortunately, the opti likes to be tempermental and the ICM is finicky on these cars.

The car hasn't done that weird thing since the day at the drive thru... I think it'll be ok. Im working on my plugs and wires this weekend, and will try to do the fuel pressure as well. I'd kinda hoping its the fuel pump. They're cheaper to fix/replace than an opti... correct?

That may be but certainly not easier. You either drop the tank or cut a hole in your car to remove it. The opti can't be that expensive and, if you're good, can swap it out in about 45min-1hr.
