Refusing to start at first then strong smell of gas and white smoke
I have a 1996 Camaro z28 and It just recently started putting out a really strong smell of gas and white smoke out of the exhaust and refusing to start at first and then it'll idle at 500 Rpm's for a short bit then die. replaced an O2 sensor and the spark plugs but I'm still getting the same problems. Any ideas on what the problem is?

I was messing with it today and she'll fire right up with the throttle wide open then idle at 1500 Rpm's for a minute and then start mess firing, along with the thick smell of gas but I was able to reduce the amount of smoke that came out... I want to say something's wrong with my air sensor and it's just not putting enough air in. I'm not sure tho

Tshafer, welcome to LStech! SEARCH will be your best friend around here.
I'm thinking you have a stuck open fuel injector. The PCM will not report this as a code. Check the spark plugs. Check for fuel in the oil.
If you must change the opti, do the wires the same time. Go all GM with this stuff.
The balancer mounts to a hub and is removable to allow access to the opti without pulling the balancer off the crank. Search around, there's a few write-ups.
The fuel injectors are given positive power and the ground is manipulated by the PCM. My long gone '94 had an injector wire back to the PCM grounded in the harness causing that injector to empty the gas tank into the crank case.

It's the only sensor that goes into the water pump. If I remember correctly when I unplugged mine, it would start up without being at WOT. Mine also threw a code for it, so you should check that first, but if you don't have a way to scan it, and want to be completely sure you can rule it out, you can buy a new one for about 20 bucks
