Default My Old Formula Update

So the new owner (actually he's had the car for two years now so he's not really the "new" owner anymore lol) continued to have issues keeping a 4L60E alive race after race. He ended last season breaking an RPM level 5 after only 10 passes, and got less than favorable customer service for his $2500...So, after seeing the success of quik95lt1, I suggested a TH350 swap. He went to ATI, which is local to us and they built him a RMVB TH350 with a transbrake, and an 8" 4800 converter, and had a local company in White Marsh, MD do the install. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but the "new" owner says they did a great job. Initial street testing was apparently scary. and he can't wait to get to the track in this nice cool Fall air. Hoping to finally get a high 10 on the motor and 10.20s on the 100 shot...Been a long time coming. It would be ridiculous to run those numbers on an 18 year old motor..I'll keep everyone posted on the numbers it runs.

Good luck. There's a group headed to Cecil on Nov. 16 if the owner is interested.

That is the exact combo I will be running in my z28 - th350 with 8" Treemaster ~4400-4800 depending on engine dyno results. My tranny guy doesn't like 4l60s in race apps over ~550hp. They can live, but are expensive and unreliable.

Nice to see your Formy still doing work!

Sounds like a beast! It would be nice too see some vids.
I do not think I will be running a 4l60e after next year either.

Yeah its very cool to hear that the old bird is still running well. Since he purchased it from me he's added a complete in tank Racetronix fuel system, a huge trans cooler with a fan, new opti, wires and plugs, scaled the exhaust back to dumps with Vibrant race mufflers, a Nitrous Outlet 100 shot, and new 33 splined Strange axles with 5/8" studs (replacing the original set in the 12 bolt, which were both slightly bent at the flange somehow) and the new trans/converter/shifter/two-step, and a new Stange 3" chromoly drive shaft.

During the Spring on the 100 shot with the 4L60E/Vig4400 combo he foot braked to a low 1.3 to 60' and grenaded the trans when it shifted into 2nd. The car hooked dead straight with a 2-3' wheelie on very worn 325 50 R15 M/T DRs. If all works well he's going to crap his pants off the 'brake with the spray and I'll tell him about Cecil in November...

Well the owner went to Cecil last night and it seems as though the motor is just plain worn out. The bottom end was built in 1995 by Lingenfelter, and its an awful lot to ask to flog a motor for 18 years without a rebuild. He went 12.20 at 109 with a 1.60 60' n/a and didn't bother to spray it. He's going to do a compression and leakdown test and see whats going on, but the damn thing doesn't owe anyone anything after 18 years.

The cool thing is that he wants to stay with the LT platform. More cam and compression to get it solidly in the 10s n/a staying on the edge of pump gas. We'll see what he decides to do. I suggested AI to freshen the heads and spec a cam for him, and we'll figure out a good local shop to rebuild the bottom end. I have a few ideas of who he should use, but its his money...Stay tuned...She's down but not out

That's no good. Would be interested in seeing what kind of cylinder pressure that thing is generating. Did he say what it felt like going down the track- whether or not it accelerated smoothy?

Yeah that's the weird thing. He said it felt very strong. No misses, no knocking, no smoke. He's supposed to do some data logging. There's an opinion by a reputable guy that its the knock sensor detecting false knock...I know those sensors dont last forever. I haven't talked to the owner this week, but he's supposed to have the compression/leak down test done and if that reveals favorable numbers, then he'll datalog it...We'll see...

Good to hear the car is still around Alan, I was wondering what happened with it. Glad he's sticking with the LT1 in it. The car just wouldn't be the same other wise.
