Default Could this be an optispark problem?

Lately I'll be driving on the freeway anywhere from 60 to 70 mph and all of a sudden I'll loose a little power and my rmp gauge will go to 0 rpms. If I tap the throttle pedal the rpms come back to normal and the car acts like nothing happened. A few times the car has turned off on me while on the freeway. Could this be an opti problem, or could it be a fuel problem?

Could be an ignition switch problem.

The ses doesn't come on. I don't think its a power issue because the lights and everything else keeps running like normal, but I'll check all the connections anyway. It's weird the rpms go to 0 but oil pressure stays the same, battery voltage stays the same, and the car isn't over heating.

It's a 94 z28 with about 146xxx miles. I changed the opti about 2 years ago this one has about 25,000 miles on it.

Opti's do not make a gauge cluster lose power or connectivity. Still think you may have an ignition switch problem.

It's not the cluster losing power, just the rpm gauge goes down to 0 rpms and the engine loses a little power everything else on the cluster works. The opti itself is a generic opti I got from a place by my house that rebuilds distributors, It's probably a rebuilt Oem opti. I live in Los Angeles so I don't really drive in rain. The car never gives me problems around the neighbor hood, just on the freeway. It almost feels like when I hold the throttle in a certain spot it happens. Could a bad throttle position sensor be causing this?

If you think it's the opti, then replace it. Report results.

Only the fastest ten bolts whine, make your rpms go to zero and kill your opti. How fast is your ten bolt car?
