Default T56 probs

Ok guys I got my ltx swap completed and the used trans I bought has a few probs, the 1-2 synchro's seem to be bad, grinds on every 1-2 shift and intermitently jumps out of third. mostly on the down shift, so for those that have been inside these what are the most likely culprits. I would like to get the most probable parts on hand before pulling it, as it's been 2 years building it. and I really dont want it torn down for weeks, I'm enjoying it too much even with the probs. any help would be greatly appreciated. also links to the least expensive parts suppliers would be real nice. thanks.

bad syncros, bent 3-4 shift fork and possibly bad keys.

I think a stage 2 rebuild kit addresses all these issues.

Thanks for the response, I sure was hoping for more input, 107 views and only 1 response. while a stage 2 kit would be nice I was hoping to just replace the suspect parts, not wanting to do a complete rebuild right now, as funds are kinda tight.

If you are going through the trouble of pulling it might as well do it all. Mine sounded like yours and it cost me a grand at TDP with the stage 2 and repairs.

syncros, 3-4 fork and billet keys would typically address what you describe

you have 2 problems

1-2 grind (syncros, and or keys.)
pops out of 3rd (bent 3-4 fork, common problem)

^This. How many miles were on this used trans when you got it? If it's going to be apart, might as well do it right with a full rebuild, or you just might be taking it apart again a year or two down the line, that adds up. No telling how it was abused by previous owners. "The gearbox transmissions" has good prices. You'll spend as much on labor more than likely than parts, it's cheap insurance really.

Thanks for the replies, I am going to pull it and tear it down, I have to just do a repair for now. the labor doesnt bother me, as I am retired, and this is my toy. next year I'll have a few loans paid off and I can afford to do a total rebuild then, just cant afford to do that right now.
