Default Hood clearance issue!!!

Okay guys i have a 406ci sbc in my 95z. I'm using the FAST ez efi 2.0 which uses a regular carbureted style intake/filter. But With the stock hood i'v got about 2 1/4 inches to fit something and i cant find any intake or filter that small.

Also been looking at aftermarket cowl hoods and it seems that all of them have the brace that runs along the back for stability. Problem is that is right where i need the clearance.

anyone ever have this problem?
what are my options?

I uploaded a picture of a cowl hood fore reference

On a cowl hood I have cut the reinforcement at the edge of either side of the cowl, bent a piece of metal that follows the cowl and riveted it into the existing brace on either side.

I would pretty much have to cut the whole piece out between the cowl. but maybe i could bend a piece of metal and epoxy it along the cowl for some structural integrity.

not a bad idea. Thanks

If you want a VFN hood, call and talk to them. They may be able to build it with the bracing along the underside of the cowl like you want it. If they can't they may be able to tell you the best way to go about it.
