Default My $13 Home Made Intake Elbow

I found this at Lowes:
NIBCO 4-in x 3-in Dia 90-Degree ABS Closet Elbow Fitting

And with a torch and some massaging did this:

My friend gave me the K&N section from the MAF to Filter and I put a Spectre 4" Conical filter on it. All in all I paid a whooping $38 for this set up using some stuff from my Ebay kit I had. Not too Shabby.

And Yes I noticed a difference, I can Grab 6th gear under 1500rpms now without lugging. Previously 55mph was my lowest speed I could get 6th gear to not lug at, after a bit of tuning.

Now I can get it down to almost 40mph with no additional tuning! Mind you this is with my 230/238 Lunati Cam on a 110+6 LSA, LE2 heads and 11.7:1 CR, 355CID LT1. Daily driver too!

Top end power might not be much different, I didn't do a full throttle run yet. But the 3/4 throttle I did give it definitely responded better. By how much, ehh, it's noticeable. This is after I installed my catalytic Converter today too.

Now time for some exhaust cut outs....

Before Pic (with Ebay CAI):

What did you do to form the oval without ruining the PVC?

Heat. I guess about 500 degrees makes PVC pliable. You can shape it how you want. I used a torch, but a heat gun produces nicer work. I did it by hand and that explains why it's pretty ugly. But, it works. LOL.

Cosmetics will come when the mechanical side is done.

Here's a video that shows the basic process. It's pretty easy.

Yeah, I was told that I would'nt be able to use anything under 2K rpms when I got the cam. I was able to tune it to a point where I could get it down to 55mph (about 1600-1700 rpms indicated), after this elbow install it'll go down to 40mph without bucking. Which is better than I could when the car was stock. I don't drive it that low though, I use 5th under 50mph.

Not too bad looking at all.

Trick Flow makes a nice LT1 intake elbow. It's metal, and can be ordered in black, raw silver, or polished ceramic coated.

Thanks, It will be coming off for some cosmetic fine tuning.

I've seen the Trickflow, but that's $90. The cheapest I've seen was one on ebay for $30-40. I figured why not, If it doesn't work then I'm out $13 (including the coupling). It worked out.

Alright, I got bored and found some body work stuff laying in my garage (paint/glazing putty/sand paper). I pulled it back off and smoothed it out.

Cosmetic enhancement complied with.

Thanks guys.

Thought I'd share in case others are considering something similar. I'll see how it handles the Arizona summer heat. But it took quite a bit more heat to reshape than my engine bay can deliver so I feel comfortable with it.

if its clamped down i wouldn't worry in the slightest. At most it should warp around the clamp but not actually lose seal.
