I just did this last week. I thought I knew what I was doing for the first hour of fiddling, but then I checked my shop manual and found out about the nifty little release button on the back of the parking brake mechanism inside the car. Once you find it, you can give slack to the cable and remove/replace it. I cut the little piece of carpet that goes across where the cable goes through. That grommet is a bit of a pain too. Also, removing the driveshaft makes things much easier under the car.
