Default 24x system + Powerbond SFI balancer = ?

Hey guys, need some help....

I'm installing a 24x kit with double roller timing kit and billet timing cover on my 388 LT1 and have also purchased a Powerbond SFI balancer (part # PB1481-ss) and flange (part # FHS1481-ss)....WILL THESE PARTS WORK WITHOUT MODIFICATION?

Mike @ EFI Connections says the max measurement from the face of the balancer to back is 1.325" before it makes contact. I searched for the measurement online and couldn't find anything - is anyone able to comment or even measure theirs?

The engine is being sent to a highly competent engine builder/machine shop - would they be able to machine it down without effecting performance if required?

Thanks

Andrew

I have a 24X on my 93 with the billet cover. I used an ATI Super Dampner though, the ATI hub that came with the kit is the same hub they use for 93-97s LT1s. How ever the 93-95 cars use a spacer provided from ATI where as the 96-97 cars would disregard that spacer. Because it's actually the correct length for a 96-97 car with the factory 4X reluctor on the crank, since the 93-95 cars don't have that, the spacer compensates for not having the reluctor wheel. So when I did the 24X I took the spacer off when it went back together and it was all good.

You can look at that and see the length of the 96 hub compared to the prior OBD 1 hub. If the Power Bond wasn't year specific when you ordered it, then it may also use a spacer for the OBD 1 car that you won't use on a OBDII or 24X in your case. I checked their website and cross referenced a 93 and 97 Z28 Camaro, the balancer is the same part number which is right. Just need to measure the crank hub and compare it to the measurement in that link for a 96+ hub. The Pioneers for example that Jegs sells are specific for the OBD1 and OBD2 cars. Hope this helps.

It turns out I've ordered the wrong flange adapter - I got the 3.516"one for a 93-95 and I should have got the 3.417" kit for 96-97 cars. Should I keep the flange for 93-95 according to what you ran into above? Thanks

No, get the 96 one. The 93~95 piece will cause the belt to not align since the balancer will stick out to far because the hub is to long. The 96 piece is shorter to accommodate for a crank reluctor wheel and maintains proper belt alignment.
