Default 355 H/C with F-1R @ 18 pounds, problem lifting heads??

Hey all. I'm nearing completion ordering the rest of parts for my setup. Just got the fuel system in from lonnies friday and am ready to get started testing stuff in the coming weeks. Was talking to procharger and they claim I could run max boost with this blower if I wanted to. My builder keeps thinking I'm going to lift the heads with anything over 12psi. Problem is, that's only going to put me at approximately 600rwhp which isn't enough to trash the trust fund babies local to me with ZR1's etc. I want to run 18-20psi. Is this doable with my heads setup? Not sure what gaskets to run either. I have diamond pistons that apparently are good for this. Thanks

Run good studs and I doubt you will have any problem, unless you have 10:1 compression. I believe you biggest problem is going to be head gaskets. I would run mls with that much boost.

With good parts you will be fine. I run over 20.

What they said^ generally lifting heads is a result of to much ignition timing. .. play it safe and creep up on the tune. You'll be fine

OP -

I am just trying to save you the headache of pulling your heads AFTER your engine is installed, so I'll say that I would not run 18 lbs of boost using anything less than ARP head studs and MLS gaskets.

I personally have had regular Felpro stock type gaskets blow at anything greater than 5 psi. (and Yes, my heads and block had been milled flat prior to installation) - and I was using studs too.

FYI - The tech that I spoke with at Felpro said that Felpro does not suggest using their standard type head gasket at anything over 5 psi - so, my experiment proved their point.

Once I installed the Mr. Gasket MLS head gaskets (along with my ARP studs torqued to 80 ft-lbs), I've had zero issues at 12 psi.

Now having said that, there are others on this site that say they "regularly" run higher levels of boost on their LT setups (and again, according to them), they have been "fine", but I would spare you grief of replacing your head gaskets twice.

But hey, don't listen to ME - call the tech line of your favorite gasket manufacturer and ask them directly - I'm sure they don't want you to do it twice either!

: )

If you can't get a felpro 1074 to hold at 5 psi. You need to find someone who can tune your stuff.
