Default Canton Valve Covers

I bought a pair of Canton Valve Covers they did not come with gaskets. I have a blue rubber Fel pro gasket but my friend who's installing them said they will most likely leak. Any advice on what gaskets to buy for these valve covers?

I personally have never had those leak on my lt1 or 350 in my truck. And we use them at work with no leaks either.

Will they fit on those Canton Valve Covers they are custom. I don't understand why they don't give you gaskets with custom valve covers I paid 200 for that price no gaskets.....LOL

They should use stock gaskets. If they don't stay on the valve covers just put silicone on the four corners and press the gasket on for a few minutes before placing on the head. If the gaskets appear small then you may need to stretch them.

As said above, I put silicone in each corner then used small clamps to hold them in place for an hour before install.

He's correct. I stretched mine too. When I first went to put gasket on valve cover I noticed a nice size difference. Then I was informed to stretch them and silicone them.

I've used these with great success, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sc...make/chevrolet
its the only option to not stretch and silicone.

Only thing about those is that the cork material seems to leak more than the rubber gaskets. I've had a guy use those type and start a small leak less than a month. But any gasket will leak if not installed properly.

I've used them for 8 years on a set of cheap $30 chrome valve covers, no leaks yet.

Speaking specifically about the Cantons, I know mine will leak 100% of the time if the rubber gasket isn't siliconed to the valve cover all the way around. They grind the welds on the gasket surface. Put a straight edge on it and it becomes obvious. They are wonderful for clearing big valvetrain but **** me off after they are on.

Quoting '95 TA - The Beast' from an old thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...l#post11860938

I did some research and there is a metal-core, cork with rubber facing gasket set available from both Fel-Pro and Mr.Gasket (with the Fel-Pro being twice as expensive as the Mr.Gasket ones) that would be ideal for the cantons. Install them to the valve covers themselves with a VERY thin layers of RTV so the seal to the valvecover permanently, let it sit overnight to cure and then install them. With even minimal pressure there is no way they could leak.

Also, be sure the sealing surface on the perimeter of the heads is nice and flat with no burrs/high-spots. If there are any use a flat file and take them down. I have seen more than a few cases where people were blaming the gaskets/valvecovers and the sealing surfaces weren't flat.

1badzee, the Fel-Pro ones actually are quite a bit thicker at .250", thus if you use those they may keep you from having to cut-down the bolts.

Part #s:
Mr.Gasket: MRG-5867 (normal height, .172")
Fel-Pro: FPP-1648 (thicker, .250")
I used the Mr Gasket metal core cork rubber hybrid gaskets on my cantons after getting fed up with the rubber gaskets moving all over. Have worked great for me.
