Exclamation strange noise all of sudden

Drove it to the store 10 minutes prior to discovering this noise
got back from the store, washed the car, started it back up and now this! loud hollow sounding metal on metal noise, any ideas? new motor, about 4k miles.

Deep noises like that are never good. Wouldn't start it again and would start taking things apart.

Its telling u it doesnt want anything to do with an LSX motor swap. Its crying for a BB chevy, something like a 496" stroker. Just bolts into a Nova with parts right off the shelf.

Wish i could put a BB in my 4th gen camaro.

For about the same amount of money it would take to do something retarded like that you could have similar power out of an emissions legal setup out of your stock block.

And just curious on your opinions, if this were any of you, and you just exhausted most of your funds getting this 355 going, and this happens, how would you go about the situation? What's your gameplan? Its my brothers car, not my nova, and I'm just sick and tired of dealing with this ******* car and its constant letdowns. W.W.ls1tech.D.

I'd pull the rocker covers first, and look for anything loose. By any chance did you use the OE rockers? Maybe one of them spit the needle bearings out. If so, the Comp Cams trunnion kit will get you going.

If all is OK under the rockers, I'd look in the flywheel area. Pull whatever access covers are down there, and if nothing looks amiss, try to get a friend who can turn the engine over with a ratchet and socket on the crank bolt, while you look for loose s**t.....

With as deep as it is, I really don't think it's valvetrain related. It's also very fast which points to bottom end rotating assy. Only option is to either do like shoebox said and check to see if everything trans-to-engine related is tight, and if that checks out, start taking the engine apart and see what you can see.

Sorry to read the news. FWIW i brazed my tube on the pump last time i did one - mostly because i didnt have a weld machine. But u can braze all around the joint/tube if u want. Brazing still takes a lot of heat though and u will need to check your clearances (pickup and pump lid) after brazing.

Thanks for the follow up. Cool nova and hope to get it going again.
