Default motor mounts

So i've got a set of poly motor mounts to put in, i keep seeing differing opinions about the best way to do this job with the motor still in the car. I have jackstands, and a good floor jack.

I'm seeing suggestions to:

-jack up on the crank hub
-put a 2x4 under the oil pan and jack up on that
-jack up on the bell housing of the tranny

but i'm not seeing any real consensus.

How did you guys do it, and did the way you did it cause any problems?

I personally have done the 2x4 under the oil pan and on the bellhousing in my car, both work good. I would NEVER jack up the motor by the balancer, that's a good way to possibly bend your crank.

Never jack up any car... by the crank hub. Whoever told you that should be drug out into the street kicked in the nuts and shot.
The 2x4 trick on the bell housing and oil pan will work just fine to install mounts.

I used the 2x4 method under the oil pan when i jacked up the motor to install long tubes. no issues at all. I would go that way again when i do mounts this summer

Ended up jacking on the tranny, since I wanted to do a pan gasket while I was under there, gasket's done, mounts are done, long tubes are in, worked great

The oil pan method should be avoided though if you had to clearance the pan for a longer stroke crankshaft, could easily undue any clearancing you've done.
