Been busy and not had a chance to rip the intake off. I do have to go back home tomorrow for a job interview. So it will be sitting for a month or so while I take care of other stuff.

So actually had some time today. Ended up pulling the oil pan along with the intake manifold. Lets just say SCORE.
Under the oil pan we find...
Forged pistons, forged rods, and its a 383!
On top of that I pulled the intake to find that the heads are ported a decent amount. Intake manifold is ported as well.
Also found more comp cam parts with 7.1 inch pushrods with what I am guess are comp cams lifters.
So big score. With the setup this car was making some power. We did a basic cam lift check and we have .590ish intake and .600 exhaust. So its got a big camshaft. Someone really lost their baby. So next up is to save some cash to pick up some random stuff. I need to get the flywheel balanced to the flexplate. The flexplate was neutral balance but it has an extra hole drilled in it so it looks to be balanced. Ill talk to a machine shop about it. Next step however is to pull the bearings and check to make sure everything is still good inside the engine.
However very happy.

Probably a younger guy who picked up someone's project for cheap and wrecked it right after since they weren't used to the power.
Even fully built these cars are real cheap now, not out of the question for even a high schooler to afford a well built LT1. Hell, Ramair only wanted 9k for his whole badass 10sec 383 car and that won't even get you a 10 second capable longblock.

That's quite the score! I'm sure the original owner who built the car would be in tears to see that 383 end up in the junkyard! Maybe whoever wrecked didn't have a place to de-mod/part it out and just said screw it...or didn't realize what they had to begin with.
Just a guess, did the car have street tires? Mine was pretty tail happy even in 3rd gear when I had street tires and upgraded to a 383, while 1st and 2nd were a smokeshow.... kinda dangerous! Especially for a newb!

Even sweeter. Does it have Eagle crank and rods? With the SRP pistions its probably one of those kits they used to put togather and sel back in the day. Same kit I had/have. Id bet it has a SRP dished pistion runs around 10.5:1 compression

That flexplate may not have a weight welded on it.....The flex plate that came on the 383 shortblock I bought from you (Thanks!) a few years back didn't have any weight added to it (zero balanced) therefore I was able to just bolt up a stock LT1 flywheel for my 6spd application.

Judging off the PN on the piston, you got the forged flattops. Unknown C/R though http://www.jegs.com/i/SRP/867/138094/10002/-1
Also, are you sure it's not a 385 & not a 383? Since it's .040 over http://www.jepistons.com/Catalogs/SR.../350_flat.aspx

So update. Getting everything I need to install this into my car. Working on a few things such as gaskets, a clutch and all the other parts I need to make this work. I also after some internet search found the guy who used to own the car. He sold the car in August and it must have been the new owners who crashed it. However here are some of the build specs.
- Lloyd Elliott LE2.2 cam @.050 236/236 W/1.6 Rockers .600/.600 Lobe Sep 107
- Magnaflux on block prior to build
- Stock heads fully ported by LT1 legend Lloyd Elliott and custom grind cam to match heads
- SRP forged flat-top pistons
- Pro Magnum roller rocker arms
- Holley 58mm throttle body with port-matched 58mm black powder coated intake
- Morel lifters (expensive..ouch!)
- Comp Cams Hi-Tech pushrods
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- Ford 40lb fuel injectors
- MSD 6AL ignition
- Granatelli mass air flow sensor
I also have a video of the engine running. So this is what is should sound like.
Plans are to try to get the engine in by the end of June. About two years since the Firebird has seen any actual road use. Hopefully all should go as planed.
