ls1 rear brake swap
hi just wanted to check on what i need to do the ls1 rear brake swap on my 1996 z28. I know i need backing plates calipers brackets and rotor. i also need the park brake shoe and rear e brake cables. my question is do i need the front e brake cable the one that goes to the handle. I found some one on craigslist selling everything but the front e brake cable and i think i don't need it anyway just want to make sure. Thanks

Thanks for the info. the only reason I am doing the rear brake conversion is because I need calipers and the setup I am looking at is only 100 buck more then the lt1 calipers. I am mainly doing it for the better park brake. So do I need the front e brake cable?

I had an LS rear in my car for a little while and just hooked up the two LS brake cables to the existing yoke. No change in front cable. Seemed to work fine.

^ What he said. The cable from the handbrake itself can be retained. You just need the cables that run to each e-brake drum.
Calipers and brackets
Backing plates w/parking brake shoes installed
Rotors and pads
E-brake cables (rear driver/passenger)
E-brake cable holders (clamp around LCA mount)
You can reuse stock rubber lines.

Old thread I know but there is a major benefit to those that want to narrow a rear more than 2" per side. LT1 rear brakes obviously have the calipers aft of the axle, LS1 brakes are fwd the axle. In a nutshell converting to LS1 style brakes gives you more room to narrow without hitting the phb mount. In my case I want to tuck a 295/55 while using a 5.5" backspace wheel. In order to have plenty of your clearance to keep my ride height low like i prefer it, I need to narrow 3" per side. You CAN'T do that with LT1 brakes.
