Default removing the crank pulley from my 1996 LT1 impala SS

I wanted to remove the crank pulley seperately (without the hub) with the hub being connected to the crank. I tried to remove the crank pulley separately and I couldn't. what tools needed to remove the pulley and how?

the 3 bolts bolting the crank pulley to the hub are unbolted.

It should slide off. Sometimes they are a little difficult from being on there so long. Try some PB Blaster between the pulley and the hub.

I just did this on my 94 formula and i used a 3 jaw gear puller. I placed a socket on the crank bolt to keep the puller straight. I cant remember the socket size off the top of my head. It should come of nice and easy that way.

You'll only need a puller to pull the hub of the crank, but the pulley comes off the hub without a puller..... usually, lol.

Yeah mine didnt want to come off so i had to resort to the puller and i had it off in like a minute....rust can be a pain sometimes.

In most climates a damper that has been on the hub a long time will need a puller due to "time welding", in theory you shouldn't need a puller and if you are in a very dry climate or it has been off recently or maybe treated to prevent rust it can come off without a puller.

Later pulleys usually have three small holes in between the spokes to use a puller (bottom of this diagram).

I couldn't remove the crank pulley. I wanted to replace the opti-spark seal and the water pump seal. I will take the car (1996 impala SS) to mechanic carage for a complete engine rebuild.

I think the engine has 4.030" pistons now. now if I want to install 4.040" pistons do I need to install a new other weight counter weight in the flywheel for rotating assembly balance? what weight shall I use in the flywheel for balancing the rotating assembly?

thanks.
