Default Oil Cooler Delete Bolts

Hello Community,

I am tackling the oil cooler delete next weekend, and I am looking to order some bolts to replace the stock ones. Anyone know the size/thread needed? Or does some site sell a kit? I haven't been able to find anything while searching.

The bolt size is 5/16 x 18 x 1.25 inch. It's a special bolt with a short head to clear the filter.

It's used with this filter adapter:

I used some socket head bolts for the reduced head diameter.

Are you sure it fits? The description in the purchase window specifically says:

This GM Oil Filter adapter fits all Chevy small blocks from 1968-99 except for LT1 and LS1 and all big blocks from 1968-89.

I guess that description is assuming you are not deleting your oil cooler on an LT1, thus why it won't fit. Is that right?

That bolt, its description and part number is listed in the F-body parts catalog for a LT1 engine without an oil cooler.

Ahh, I think I misunderstood.

I ordered the adapter and it looks just like the one I already have.

I guess to do the bypass you can use the stock adapter, you just need the bolts.

If you don't plan on using the oil cooler ever again you could cut the extentions off the bolts that came with the oil cooler and use them. If you do that good luck ever getting another set though.

The bolts should be all you need. When I removed the oil cooler on my '94, I had also purchased the adapter. It wasn't necessary as the oil cooler was already utilizing the adapter. Things may differ by model year. I believe the cooler was redesigned in '95.
